SUMMARY: Responsible for the purchase of raw materials, finished products and general supplies. This includes power train, medical and industrial components.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Identifies/selects vendors by researching vendors who supply materials/products used, comparing/analyzing potential/current vendors and developing relationships as needed.
Prepares/orders various materials/finished products by creating accurate/complete orders, obtaining pricing lists, establishing appropriate delivery dates, and authorizing purchase orders based on all factors.
Conducts vendor follow up by monitoring Receiving reports, identifying outstanding orders, liaising with vendor representatives to identify delivery dates/problems/concerns and updates reports as needed.
Provides internal/external customer service to other business units (Sales, Production, Engineering, Accounting, senior management) and customers by providing requested information, generating appropriate reports, interpreting information/data, responding to inquiries, and resolving customer issues/problems/concerns.
Monitors/reviews the rejection list by receiving status updates from Receiving/Stock Room, completing Material Rejection Authorizations and re-ordering/returning purchases to the appropriate vendors.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School diploma (some college preferred) with a minimum of 7 years’ experience in purchasing/buying; a manufacturing environment is preferred. Strong interpersonal, negotiation, research, persuasion, relationship building, and multi-tasking skills required. PC literacy (word processing, spreadsheet) is also required. Knowledge of marketplace, vendors and suppliers also required.
